Indonesian man sentenced to 20 years' jail for rape of 12-year-old girl, and illegal entry

SIBU: An Indonesian man has been sentenced to a total of 20 years and three months' jail plus four strokes of the rotan by the Sessions Court after he was found guilty of raping a 12-year-old girl and entering the country illegally.
He pleaded guilty on Wednesday (May 8) to two counts of rape, one each for having sexual relations and sexual assault, and another for illegally entering the country.
The accused, farmer Maxi Banfantri, 30, was charged with two rape offences under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code.
The two offences on a 12-year-old girl were committed on April 22 and 23, with the first one in a bush along Jalan Hock Ming and the other in a bush in Tanjung Kunyit.
Maxi, who was unrepresented, also admitted to having sexual relations with the girl under Section 377CA of the Penal Code and sexually assaulted her on March in a house in Jalan Hock Ming.
Justice Caroline Bee Majanil also sentenced him to three months' jail for entering the country without a valid travel document.
According to the facts of the case, the victim's mother, 45, of Sungai Bidut, had found that she was not at home on April 22, and she suspected that her daughter might have gone out with the accused, who is their neighbour.
The next day, she lodged a police report.
At about 9am on April 24, the girl's father saw her at the Paradom Bus Terminal.
She confessed that she had gone out with the suspect, and both of them had sex.
This led to the arrest of the accused three hours later on the same day at the central police station.
