Authorities mistreat inmates

Prisons authorities in Apac district have been accused of administering two strokes of the cane per in-mate, every morning and evening.

These accusations were made when a 15-man delegation toured various prisons in Apac district on April 10.

The delegation led by Michael Edule, comprised of LC 5 chairmen, heads of departments and councillors who are administrative and marketing committee members. At least over 110 in-mates spoke of torture.

In-mates accused Prisons authorities for allegedly harassing them. Some in-mates have also unlawfully over-stayed in prison.

The committee is also responsible for catering to the welfare of civil servants and overall production in the district. Heads of department from the Ministry of Agriculture and Social Welfare were present.
