JOHORE BAHRU, Wednesday.

WHEN sentencing 15-year-old Kassim bin Katejyo to 18 months imprisonment and 10 strokes of the rotan, at the Assizes today, Mr. Justice Russell told him that at the rate he was going he would spend the rest of his life in prison.

This was the third time Kassim was sent to gaol for housebreaking.

Kassim was released from prison on April 2, after serving 18 months and was arrested on June 11.

Mr. Justice Russell also ordered that Kassim should undergo three years police supervision.

Kassim pleaded guilty to breaking into the seaside restaurant at 3.30 a.m. on June 11 and robbing the owner of $1,300 in addition to stealing $30 and a fountain pen from Mrs. Yvonne Valberg, a waitress who lived on the premises.

When arrested he had $1,000 on him and the fountain pen.

In reply to the Judge, Kassim admitted having been sent to the Selangor Boys' Home after his first conviction on a charge of housebreaking.

On the second occasion, after conviction on a similar offence he was sent for 18 months to the Approved School in Muar.

Mr. Justice Russell expressed the hope that the sentence he had passed would be served in an approved school.
