A copy of the following rule made by the Governor-in-Council of the Colony of Grenada, and approved by the Colonial Office, relating to punishment by flogging for misconduct in prison in the colony, has just been laid on the table of the House of Commons:--
Corporal punishment in the case of prisoners over 16 years of age shall be inflicted with a cat or birchrod, and in the case of prisoners under 16 years of age with a birchrod only; the cat or birchrod shall be of a pattern to be approved of from time to time by the Governor. The number of strokes inflicted on a prisoner over 16 years of age shall not exceed 24, and on a prisoner under 16 years of age 12. The number of strokes and the instrument with which they are to be inflicted shall be stated in every order for corporal punishment, and such order shall, as hereinbefore provided, be subject to the Governor's approval.
