Strappings Ordered
Youths Also Receive Prison Terms for Robbery
Peterborough, Ont., January 20. -- Penitentiary and reformatory terms with 10 strokes of the strap were ordered for two teen-aged youths who pleaded guilty today before Judge Sheldon Smoke on joint charges of attempted armed robbery and assault.
Gordon Druce, 19, was given three years in Kingston Penitentiary and 10 strokes of the strap. John McLennan, 18, was given two years less one day definite and one year indefinite in Ontario Reformatory with 10 strokes of the strap.
The charges arose out of the attempted robbery and assault of Edgar D. Carson, Peterborough grocer, in November. Druce allegedly fired a shot into the grocer's left arm.
