A Serious Offence.

Birch to be Administered.

MELBOURNE, May 9.

In the Court of General Sessions to-day Eric M'Ilwan (aged 21 years), who had been found guilty of having committed a serious offence concerning a girl of 8 years of age, was sentenced to nine months' imprisonment, and the judge directed that 15 strokes of the birch should be administered.
