Schoolboy whipping investigated

(Photo by Surachai Piragsa)BURI RAM: A committee has been set up to investigate a male teacher for allegedly punishing a Prathom 6 student by ordering him to make 50 hand-clapping jumps in the scorching sun and whipping him 10 times on the buttocks, causing severe bruising.
The punishment was allegedly inflicted after the 12-year-old boy, of Anuban Phutthaisong Kindergarten in Phutthaisong district, was unable to recite the multiplication table during the afternoon of Nov 9.
Piya Putthapoh, the school director, said he set up a committee to investigate after receiving a complaint from Fuangkamol Anontree, 30, the boy's mother.
The investigation should be concuded in seven days, he added. The result will be relayed to the Region 4 Primary Education Office in Buri Ram.
Mr Piya said the teacher, 35, admitted to inflicting the punishment.
If he is found to have acted inappropriately, he will be subject to disciplinary action, he added.
