SIBU: The Sessions Court here yesterday sentenced an Indonesian to a total of 15 years' jail and three strokes of the rotan for causing grievous hurt to his former employers.

Juwindra, 21, pleaded guilty to hurting Kong Kim Theh, 62, and his wife Liong Khiun Theh, 67, on April 17 this year around 7pm at the couple's shophouse in Nanga Ngemah, Kanowit.

For the first charge of hurting Kong, Session Court Judge Caroline Bee Majanil sentenced Juwindra to seven years' jail and one stroke of the rotan.

For the second charge of hurting Liong, the judge sentenced Juwindra to eight years in prison and two strokes of the rotan. The sentences will run concurrently.

Juwindra was charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum of 20 years in jail, and a fine or caning, upon conviction

In mitigation, Juwindra, who hails from Sambas, said he is married and has an eight-month-old baby. He claimed that he only attacked his former employers because they failed to pay him after having worked for over a month. Juwindra is said to have earned RM30 per day.
