Man beats lover for having his baby

"Why did we have this baby?"
This unusual, insensitive question caused the row that led to 22-year-old Godirileone Kebaetse being fined P2,000 and receiving four strokes of the cane on his bare buttocks from Mogoditshane Customary Court on Friday.
On the morning of Tuesday, the 18th of April, Kebaetse, of Matebeleng ward in Mogoditshane, is said to have been lying in bed with Larona Maebe, the mother of his child, when he asked her how they came to have a baby together.
Court heard that when Maebe jokingly replied that she had no idea, an enraged Kebaetse failed to see the funny side and instead started repeatedly hitting his stunned girlfriend.
Not content with that, he then proceeded to rip her clothes to shreds.
Terrified and confused, Maebe fled to her home village of Khudumelapye, a small settlement in Kweneng West.
However, Kebaetse was made to pay -- both physically and financially -- for his moment of madness by Chief Keabetswe Dihutso.
The Chief ordered the seemingly remorseful youth to compensate his victim P2,000 by the end of the month to replace the clothes he tore, before further sentencing the accused to four lashes.
