Rhodesia policemen to be caned

SALISBURY, Aug. 11. -- Two white recruits in the Rhodesian Police have been sentenced to six cuts with the cane and a year's imprisonment with hard labour for robbing two garage attendants of about £12 10s.

David Tawse, age 20, had served as a cadet in the Metropolitan Police in London before coming to Rhodesia. The other man, David Greene, aged 21, had spent two years with the Glasgow city police. Both came to Rhodesia last March.
