400 boys caned over haircuts

The headmaster of Bryanston High School near Johannesburg yesterday caned 400 of the 452 boys at his school for not having regulation short-back-and-sides haircuts. One senior pupil said it was "discipline gone daft".

They were paraded through Mr John Vivers' study and ordered to bend over after he had ordered a snap inspection. He threatened to expel those who objected to punishment.
