Swearing kids get swats

Press cutting

BELGRADE (AP) -- Belgrade Junior High School is adopting corporal punishment -- swats -- to clean up the kids' language. "We've had a situation here where kids write notes with four-letter words and swear at each other in the halls," said Principal Craig Brewington.

The new policy is in direct response to complaints from students, teachers and parents, and developed after consultation with other administrators in the district, he said. "Any student who utters a profanity in school, on the school grounds or while under supervision of the school automatically receives three swats from a paddle and gets from one to three days in-school suspension," Brewington said in a letter to parents this week.
