Caning for student gangsters

STUDENT gangsters may face caning or expulsion from their respective schools, as well as police action.

Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Fong Chan Onn said this was because gangsterism was criminal in nature.

"The ministry is always trying to protect students from such adverse influence. Everyone else must also play a part as nightclubs and other notorious joints are easily accessible to many students from urban schools," he told Ho Cheong Sing (BN -- Ipoh Barat).
