Bandit to serve 10 years for robberyBy NATION Correspondents
A bandit was yesterday sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by a Garissa court for violent robbery.
Abdi Duobubow Maalim will also receive 10 strokes of the cane.
Maalim was convicted by Senior Resident Magistrate Samuel Soita for allegedly robbing Mr Jama Haji Mohammed of property worth Sh20,000 while armed with an AK47 rifle on April 25, 1997 at Shinmbirey area in the district.
A second charge stated that he was unlawfully present in Kenya.
Leading the prosecution, inspector Philip Irungu urged the court to treat the accused as a first offender.
A 35-year-old man was fined Sh5,000 for being in possession of 58 rolls of bhang.
Simon Gichiri Mwangi committed the offence on August 23 at Naishi Trading Centre in Njoro.
In mitigation, Mwangi pleaded for leniency.
