Teenagers jailed for nine years for rape

Two teenagers were yesterday jailed for a total of nine years after a Meru court convicted them on two counts of rape and assault. They were also ordered to receive two strokes of the cane and hard labour.

Japheth Mwiti Mboroka and Barnabas Mbaya Kabinyakia (both aged 19) appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate N H Oundu who found them guilty or rape.

They were charged that on the evening of August 5, in Gacuru village of Abothoguci East division in Meru Central District, they jointly raped a woman and also assaulted her.
