Two jailed for impersonation

By A Staff Reporter
in Ras Al Khaimah

Two men were handed prison terms by the Ras Al Khaimah Sharia Court yesterday on charges of impersonating police officers and extortion.

A senior court official said that the two Pakistanis, identified only as A.Q.M. and S.M.M., were sentenced to two months and 30 lashes and one month and 30 lashes respectively, to be followed by deportation.

Impersonating police officers, the two men went to a restaurant where they told an Indian employee that they would arrest him and the owner of the restaurant if they did not pay them Dh200, threatening him that they were aware of many violations by the restaurant.

The employee told the two that he would bring them the money. When he told the national owner about this, the owner immediately reported the case to the police.

The police arrested the two who admitted the offence and said they had resorted to this as they were in need of money.
