5 School Rules & Regulations

Behaviour DOs DON'Ts
Attendance
Punctuality

I must not misbehave in class/school and in public places.

I must not sit in the void deck before, during and after school hours.

I must not play truant.

I must not skip lessons.

I must not skip the flag-raising ceremony and the weekly Assembly.

I must not absent myself from school during the post-examination period before school vacation begins.

I must not absent myself from tests or examinations without medical certificate*/valid reasons.

*The doctor must certify that I am unfit to sit for the test/exam.

I must not be late without valid reasons.

I must observe the school rules and regulations as long as I am in school uniform, no matter where I am.

I must obey the instructions of all teachers and other school staff.

I must conduct myself as specified by the school motto and the school philosophy, both within and outside the school.

I must attend all lessons and be in school on every school day.

I must attend the flag-raising ceremony.

(For citizens) I must sing the National Anthem and recite the pledge, placing my right fist over my heart.

When I am absent, I must submit a medical certificate* to my form teacher immediately when I return to school.

(* Parents' letters, if produced, will be subjected to acceptance by the school.)

When I am unable to attend lessons or any other school activities for other reasons e.g. CCAs, I must inform my teachers concerned in advance.

I must arrange with the subject teacher to take a class or common test which I missed due to medical reasons or participation in competitions.

I must report to school on normal days by 7.25 am.

I must be punctual for all other school activities.

Grooming DOs DON'Ts
Attire
Leaving School Early

I must not modify my school uniform.

I must not wear shoes other than those approved by the school - 70% white with NAS colours (blue/black/yellow.)

I must not wear non-NAS socks.

I must not put on jewellery (only a pair of plain ear studs in earlobes are allowed) and ornaments. These items will be confiscated, kept in the school safe and can only be collected by my parents after a period of one month.

I must not have any other forms of piercing.

I must not put on my religious pendant or it will be confiscated. If I have to put it on, I am required to keep it in my purse/wallet/pocket.

I must not wear PE T-shirt during lessons after recess.

I must not sport long hair/fringe/moustache/beard (boys).

I must not tint or dye my hair. I must not have punk hairstyle.

I must not wear fanciful hair accessories other than those in BLACK.

I must not have any tattoos.

I must not keep long/painted nails.

I must not put on nail polish or henna/dye.

I must not put on fanciful spectacle frames, tinted lenses and coloured contact lenses.

I must not leave the school compound during school hours without the permission of the Principal, Vice-principal or HODs.

I must wear the prescribed school uniform appropriately.

I must be dressed in school uniform when attending normal lessons, examinations, or other school activities during school term (including weekends) or holidays.

I must put on the school tie during flag-raising on Monday.

I must put on my school PE T-shirt and shorts for PE lessons. I must tuck in my T-shirt neatly.

When I attend my CCAs, I will put on the appropriate CCA attire.

I must put on my school PE T-shirt or CCA T-shirt for any game at any time.

I must keep my hair neat. (For girls, long hair that is below the shoulders should be tied up.)

I must keep my nails short and clean.

I must ask for permission and also fill up the Permission to Leave School Early form, which is available in the General Office.

I can drink only plain mineral water while in the class.

I must conscientiously do my part to keep the class Clean And Neat.

I must wear the exit pass when going out of my classroom.

I must move quietly, orderly and briskly between classroom and other venues.

I must keep the school compound clean and dispose of litter into the dustbin.

I must consume all food and drinks in the canteen and return all used crockery to the receptacles provided by the stallholders.

I must adhere to all rules pertaining to the Library, Science and Computer Laboratories and other special rooms. I must comply with the rules when using the school facilities and equipment.

Inside Classrooms

I must not stay in the classrooms before school and during recess.

I must not loiter outside the classrooms.

I must not interfere with or disrupt the learning of other students.

I must not litter.

I must not bring any electrical and digital items such as pagers, handphones, walkmans, Discmans, radios, electronic games or card games(eg. poker cards/magic cards) to school.

I am not allowed to enter the Staff Room and Head of Department (HOD) Room.

Offences And Consequences
If I break the school rules or commit offences, I will be dealt with
according to the guidelines given in the following section.
1. I may be warned and counselled for the offence that I have committed.
2. My parents may be called in to see my form teacher, discipline teacher, Vice-
principal or the Principal.
3. I may be required to carry a Personal Discipline Notebook. My teachers will
write about my behaviour and performance in class.
4. I may be caned for my offence. (Boys only)
5. I may be internally suspended from lessons or externally suspended from school.
6. I may be referred to external agencies for further counselling/action.
I must avoid committing any of the offences listed below and if I
do, my action will be captured in the School Cockpit system. This
is a computerized system which includes behaviour tracking in
school.
Offences
Misconduct
1. Open defiance and rudeness, in speech or body language, to anyone
2. Using vulgar language
3. Cheat/attempt to cheat in tests or examinations
4. Forging signature on medical certificates, consent forms or altering any official
documents
5. Persistent absence from school/lessons without a medical certificate
6. Fighting and assault against person(s), whether injured or not
Theft/Damage of Property/Other Serious Offences
1. Stealing or shoplifting
2. Vandalism/damaging school property
3. Arson by planting explosives to set property on fire, whether attempted or
accidental
4. Smoking - use/possession/distribution/sale of cigarettes
5. Substance abuse - use/possession/distribution/sale of alcohol, drugs, inhalants
6. Pornography - consumption/possession/distribution/sale of pornographic
materials
7. Gambling - using money in games, betting, etc.
The school revises the rules and regulations from time to time to
reflect changing expectations and reserves the right to apply the
most appropriate discipline and counselling actions to students
who do not comply with them.
